No student, unless authorized by the school principal or his/her designee, shall use, or operate any cellular telephone, personal computer, laptop, electronic instrument, iPad, iPod, tablet device, e-reader, or similar devices during the normal school hours of operation in any Catahoula Parish school building, on the grounds thereof, or in any school bus. Normal school hours can include detention: before, during, or after school.  Nothing shall prohibit the use and operation by any person, including students, of any electronic telecommunication device in the event of an emergency.  Emergency shall mean an actual or imminent threat to public health or safety which may result in loss of life, injury, or property damage.  Violation of this policy shall be grounds for disciplinary action by the school, including, but not limited to, suspension and/or expulsion from school.


For purposes of this policy, the terms use and operation shall mean whenever the electronic telecommunication device is turned on.


The School Board shall not be responsible for any electronic devices, including cell phones, lost or damaged while on School Board property.




Cell phones or any electronic telecommunication device will not be used during the school day unless an emergency situation occurs.  Refusal to give phone or any electronic telecommunication device to school personnel when requested will result in a 3 day suspension.


1st Offense:


Penalty for this infraction is confiscation of the device and returned to the parent


2nd Offense:


Confiscation and returned to the parent after paying a $20 fee


3rd Offense


Confiscation and returned to the parent after paying a $50 fee


4th Offense and Succeeding Offenses:


Confiscation and returned to the parent at the end of the school year along with a one day suspension
