BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

 

 

The Catahoula Parish School Board shall grant employees up to three (3) days of bereavement leave time for death in the immediate family per year, which shall include the employee's spouse, children, parents/guardians, step-parents, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters.  Bereavement leave of three (3) days shall also be granted for death in the immediate family of an employee's spouse.  The immediate family of the employee's spouse shall include children, brothers, sisters, parents/guardians, step-parents, grandparents and grandchildren.  The leave shall be granted upon presentation to the Superintendent of an obituary/funeral program and absence form stating the relationship of the deceased.

 

If the funeral is in a location of more than two hundred (200) miles from the employee's work station, the Superintendent may grant an additional day, if required, upon proper written verification by the employee.

 

Bereavement leave shall be noncumulative.  Any additional days (up to 2 days) of bereavement shall be charged and deducted from current and/or accumulated leave, (i.e. sick leave, personal leave, annual leave, or compensatory leave.)

 

The employee's immediate supervisor must be notified prior to the beginning of bereavement leave.

 

Schools in the respective school district will be dismissed for the funeral of any student or any presently employed employee of the Catahoula Parish School Board.
